How much does it cost?
Kits aren't on sale yet. When they open it will be a one-time hardware purchase, no subscription, ever — and the software is already free and open-source — our panel firmware and apps under the MIT licence, and the Nightscout we host for you under its own AGPL licence — with free over-the-air updates.
Is the hosting really free?
Yes — free and best-effort, with no subscription and no SLA. We sell the hardware kits, so the software and hosting can stay free. Prefer to self-host? Run your own from our open-source images.
Is it open-source?
Yes. The panel firmware and the apps are ours and are MIT-licensed — do what you like with them. Your dashboard is standard Nightscout, which is AGPL, because that is the licence its own authors chose. Free updates included. The assembled kit is the only thing we charge for.
What makes the panel different?
Other CGM displays just show a number. glucoscout's panel is a native Home Assistant device and does Alexa announcements out of the box, plus weather and smart-home buttons — capabilities you'd otherwise have to script together yourself.
Which CGMs work?
Anything Nightscout supports. Two sources connect straight from your account, with nothing extra to run: Dexcom (via Share — the sharer account, not a follower) and FreeStyle Libre (via LibreLinkUp; this one is newer and we still call it beta). Already run your own Nightscout? We can mirror it. Everything else — Eversense, Sibionics, Medtrum, Stelo, GlucoRx, Sinocare, and Medtronic — feeds in through a free uploader app such as xDrip+ or Juggluco on your phone, which writes to your instance. Uploader-based sources depend on that app staying set up on your phone. We'd rather tell you which is which up front than have your chart quietly sit empty. Do I need Home Assistant or Alexa?
No. The panel works standalone and the dashboard works on any phone or computer. The Home Assistant and Alexa integrations are there for free if you want them.
Will it alarm me or wake me up?
Treat any low/high notice from the panel or Alexa as a convenience only — not a guaranteed medical alarm. Don't rely on glucoscout to catch every low or to wake you. Always keep using your CGM's own app and alarms.
Is my data private?
You get an isolated instance and full export anytime, and you can self-host from our open-source images — standard Nightscout, no lock-in, and we don't sell your data.
We ask for as little as possible. There is no name field, no address and no phone number. Your email address is your login, and it is the only thing that identifies your account — use one that isn't your name if you'd rather.
If you buy a kit we have to ship it somewhere, so Stripe collects your name and address at checkout and keeps them. They stay in Stripe; we never copy them into our database. We hold your email, your order line, and a Stripe reference.
Your glucose data is health data and we treat it that way: encrypted at rest, isolated per customer, and deleted with your account. Dormant instances are cleaned up too: if no CGM data arrives and you don't sign in for 90 days, we email a warning, wait 30 days, then delete — export your data first if you want to keep it.
Where do you operate?
The United States only, for now. Kits ship to US addresses and the hosting is intended for US users — we are a small operation, and doing one jurisdiction properly beats doing several badly.
Outside the US? The software is open-source, so you can self-host the whole thing today.
Is this a medical device?
No. glucoscout is an informational secondary display for data you already collect — not a medical device, not for dosing or treatment decisions, and not a replacement for your CGM's own app and alarms. Provided as is, at your own risk.
